Within hours, the top US court handed down an emergency order temporarily blocking full Snap food aid funds, which nearly 42 hundred thousand people depend on to put food on the table.

“Legal counsel continue working, continuously, to defend and advance the president's priorities,” the attorney general stated on online platforms shortly after 9:30pm local time.

White House staff had asked the US appeals court to stop a judicial decision that it distribute the upcoming complete Snap benefits in the middle of a US federal government shutdown, and had their request rejected hours later.

The supreme court's order came after the government petitioned a federal appeals court this past Friday to block a court ruling requiring them to distribute this month's complete nutritional assistance amid a US federal government shutdown.

Subsequent to that appeal to stop faced refusal, the government appealed to the high court in a further attempt to block the ruling to pay for nutrition assistance payments.
