Vince Gilligan Discloses He Knows How Pluribus Will Conclude... For Now.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the popular sci-fi show wrapping up—and a second season officially in the works—the creative team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Fan Response

One could easily to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and online debates surrounding Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it from others, and that's by design. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by online forums.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Will the showrunner Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team are not listening by fan response, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“We have some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to discard a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, why not reference the classics?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
