The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
