The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features several notable changes:
- Each team has only 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Actions done by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for gamers looking for different ways to enjoy the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while another lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback
Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
