It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have been successfully scaled.

We're talking about the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and once went over three years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the record chasers, are all that remain for a squad that has won it all.

It needed until Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, in truth, a testament to the bowling attack that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their hitters to hold a record if not afforded the possibility.

Finally, the consequence of Australia allowing 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy being given a platform to produce her most recent brilliance.

Initially recognized as the young family member of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 World Cup win came three months after her bow and seven world titles have come from 10 efforts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the winning streak.

That loss "drove us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy commented earlier.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the championship match and was named player of the tournament. She made sure her country would not fail again.

If this latest epic knock topped that previous effort remains open for discussion.

Many contend the case for final game tension. Some might respond with the challenge that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was much more difficult to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"For those following me in practice sessions, it was a disappointing period because I feel like my form was missing whatsoever," stated Healy.

"However when you step out on the field, your competitive instincts kick in and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's fighting spirit has always been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in succeeding famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in every game, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's inspiration.

A single came off the opening delivery and from that point Healy was in motion.

"A chance to go out there and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, kind of motivated me," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her hundred in 84 as she flogged anything short, hitting 21 fours and three sixes.

When she was removed her side needed 66 more at one run per ball - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Pursuing 330 is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the belief to accomplish that now," added Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it again but, if necessary, we know we can do it."

These statements will be the final thing Australia's opponents at this World Cup need to hear.

Over the past five days a feeling they will triumph from any situation has only strengthened - this success following victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one point.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final berth may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she later said she wished she had played despite the injury.

But while she afterwards confessed those injuries have postponed consideration of ending her career, this World Cup is expected to be her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as skipper.

Victory in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
