The Tottenham defender scored twice as Tottenham extended their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered Everton their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after more than a century at the conclusion of last season.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced twice from corners in the opening 45 minutes to put their strong form at risk, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - headed home a third to seal the victory.

The Everton defender believed he had levelled the tally five minutes after the defender's first goal, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

Beto, meanwhile, missed a number of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of fine stops to ensure the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the VAR intervened, advising the match official to review the score on the pitchside monitor and the referee ruled that the winger and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win elevates Thomas Frank's side up to third in the Premier League, five points off north London rivals and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton stay in 14th position and sit half a dozen points clear of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender excels in duties at both ends of the field

After a uninspiring weekday performance in the European competition against the French side, where they managed a mere attempts on target, the manager chose the French striker up front instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The new arrival was unable to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the field, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Defender Van de Ven converted into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Spurs' opening strike came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball back across the face of goal for an unmarked the defender to head home.

And the captain - stepping up as captain in the Argentine's unavailability - added his second in added time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was equally impressive in defence, combining effectively with Kevin Danso as the pair dealt superbly with the 34 crosses sent their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Toffees lacking finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the freshness may have worn off somewhat and supporters flocked to the gates after Sarr's third for Spurs.

The end in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a massive concern for the manager, but their striker situation are.

The forward and the other striker - the Toffees' two recognised centre-forwards - had netted only a single goal between them before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor record on a wet and gloomy evening on Merseyside.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, even with having space and opportunity to readjust for a simpler shot that would have challenged Vicario.

The substitute, as well, failed to make an impact after replacing the starter in the 65th minute.

It was not for a lack of chance. The majority of Everton's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who relentlessly delivered dangerous crosses into the Spurs penalty area.
