Iran Claims Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed operations across the region in retaliation for a significant and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is unclear and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.
Airspace Engagements
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - stated they have shot down incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas linked to the the regime, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the government.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with notable success and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.
It said missile fragments landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
