Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande on the occasion of Film Launch Banned from Singapore
An Australian man who jumped past a barrier and touched Hollywood star Ariana Grande has been deported and prohibited from Singapore.
The individual, aged 26, was handed a penalty to over a week in detention for disrupting public order and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," the country's border control informed local media.
The man shoved through camera crews and charged at the celebrity, who was present at the regional launch for Wicked: For Good on 13 November. Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
He has a background of interrupting performances and high-profile gatherings, including leaping onto the platform at the pop star's Australian show in June this year.
The incident provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with numerous people saying he of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The celebrity has spoken of dealing with PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at her performance in Manchester in several years ago took the lives of over twenty people and hurt numerous attendees.
In the legal process, the judge was informed he had made efforts to breach on the movie's debut twice, according to Singaporean media.
He then made a second attempt to jump the barricades. Event security prevented him and held him in place.
The man subsequently shared video clips thanking Grande for letting him on the carpet and said he was "at liberty."
Law enforcement took him into custody the subsequent day and charged him with causing a disturbance, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The District Judge the magistrate was cited by Channel News Asia as remarking that the man sought attention, commenting that he was wrong to think he would not experience repercussions.
Grande has not addressed the incident.
Erivo discussed the situation to NBC, stating that she "just wanted to make sure my colleague was protected."
"I believe he didn't mean us danger, but you can't predict with such situations, and I sought to confirm that she was OK. That was my initial reaction," she commented.
