Fury Explodes as Trump's Comments on Rob Reiner Draws Sharp Criticism

Individuals from both sides of the political spectrum and the entertainment world are coming together to denounce former President Donald Trump for his remarks following the shocking passing of acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

An Inflammatory Online Post

Following the discovery of the couple dead at their Los Angeles residence, Trump posted on social media to describe the late director as "anguished and suffering". The post, he asserted Reiner's demise was "due to the anger he provoked others through his enormous, relentless, and untreatable condition with a debilitating disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

The post then pivoted to self-praise, juxtaposing Reiner's alleged "intense obsession" and "clear paranoia" with what Trump called the "unprecedented era of America".

Law Enforcement Developments and Detention

Authorities have since confirmed the detention of the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick, on charges related to murder in connection with the case. It is reported his bond was established at a significant sum.

A Torrent of Condemnation from Public Figures

The reaction to Trump's words was swift and scathing.

“What a vile and vile statement,” said actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a friend, similarly criticized the statements. Goldberg referenced prior comments from Trump regarding the killing of an activist, demanding, "Have you no decency? Is it possible to get any lower?"

The state of California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, simply stated, "He is a sick man."

Mirroring this view, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "What a despicable piece of trash."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "Trump has just crossed a line. Now saying Rob and Michele Reiner brought on their own demise because they opposed him. Deeply disturbing."

Criticism from Within Political Ranks

A number of Republican elected officials also expressed dismay.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the situation was "a personal tragedy, not about political feuds or political enemies". Greene also mentioned struggles with addiction and psychological well-being some families face.

Fellow Republican representative, Thomas Massie, called Trump's discourse "unacceptable and disrespectful" given the circumstances. He openly dared others in his party to defend the statements.

Reiner's History and Views on Trump

Rob Reiner was consistently a vocal critic of Donald Trump. During a previous conversation, he stated Trump was "mentally unfit" for the presidency. He had also cautioned about the dangers of autocracy if Trump be reelected to power.

"There is authoritarianism making its move around the world," Reiner noted. "If we fall, there’s a risk that democracy crumble around the world."

Despite his strong opposition, Reiner had previously expressed "absolute horror" and condemned political violence without reservation following the killing of a different individual.

A Notable Connection: The Art of the Deal

Adding a layer of historical irony, Michele Reiner, formerly Michele Singer, was the artist who shot the cover image for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once recounted the story of the session, noting Trump's demand for "special hairspray" as posing on a high-rise overlooking Central Park.
