British Designer Antony Price, Renowned for Creating Looks for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.
Price was best known for his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the soft-colored suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."
Price's death comes shortly after he presented his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Princess Diana.
An Enduring Influence
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to blend menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in crafting body-hugging looks established him as a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
During the nineties, he began working on outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.
Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.
- Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
- Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
- Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.

The industry says farewell to a true visionary whose influence on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
