Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was convicted of plotting a government overthrow in last fall and given more than over two decades in jail, but he continued under confinement pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the decision to arrest the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after fresh information emerged.

This involved attempting to break his tracking device and a summons to a demonstration that could enable a possible escape.

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, the magistrate said data from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the former leader's aim to disable the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his flight.

But a week later, on January 8th, many his backers attacked and damaged government buildings in the national capital, the capital city.

The justices found that the rioters had been incited by Bolsonaro whose plan, they said, was for the national armed forces to take action, bring back stability and bring him back to power.

He was also banned from seeking elected position until 2060 - a decade minus two years after the end of his sentence.
